Objective:
The study of 96 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis in children from family contacts.

Design/Methods:The focus group included 48 children from families with cases of death from tuberculosis and 48 children from families without cases of death from tuberculosis.

Analysis of history of disease, clinical, bacteriological, X-ray methods and statistical analysis have been applied.

Results: Both groups did not differ by quantity of boys and girls, by average age.

Children with pulmonary tuberculosis often had no complaints.

Cavities were recorded in 11 children (22,9%) from families with cases of death and in 13 children (27,1%) from families without cases of death (χ2 = 0,056; p = 0,814). The excretion of Mycobacterium tuberculosis was determined in 16 children (33,3%) from families with cases of death and 11 children (22,9%) from families without cases of death (χ2 = 0,824;p = 0,364).

The frequency of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis in the groups differed. Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis was observed in 11 children (22,9%) from families with cases of death and 2 children (4,2%) from families without cases of death (χ2 = 5,694; p = 0,017).
